Holiday Break

I am taking a bit of a break today, tomorrow and Sunday. I may post occasionally if I run by something interesting but normal updates will be halted until Monday.

Enjoy this holiday weekend and please remember what it is all about.

What we used to Believe

What we used to believe when we were kids and then found out things were quite different. How about:
  • I used to believe that, like the commercial, if I squeezed a handful of peanuts, they would turn into a Snickers Bar.
  • I used to believe when characters on tv shows or movies were killed, that suicidal actors played those parts.
  • Teachers used to say 'If you pick your nose your head will cave in'!!!
  • When I was little I used to think that all dogs were boys and all cats were girls!

Falcon Cam

Peregrine Falcons observed on a webcam presented by Kodak.

Optical Camouflage

Optical camouflage(will open WMP video) is a kind of active camouflage.
This idea is very simple. If you project background image onto the masked object, you can observe the masked object just as if it were virtually transparent.

Remember Bobby Fischer

Bobby Fischer sure has changed and has had a ton of trouble in his life.
Pictured below is former world chess champion Bobby Fischer as he departs for Iceland from Narita international airport in Narita, northeast of Tokyo following his release from detention March 24, 2005. Fischer, who was taken into custody in Japan last July for traveling on what U.S. officials said was an unofficial passport, was granted Icelandic citizenship and avoided deportation.

Los Angeles Tour

See LA without leaving your computer. This map-based site contains hundreds of images of downtown Los Angeles, displaying its tremendous architectural, cultural and economic diversity. There are seven sub-regions and quite a few pictures of historic sites.

Converse asked people to send in a 24 second film that embodies the spirit of Converse. Some are really great and a lot to choose from. A must see site.

Beer Drinking Robot

Now why didn’t we think of this?” The this to which I allude is the beer-drinking robot. Or as his drinking buddies call him, the “Bar Bot.”

Living on a Cruise Ship

Smart woman!!!
Bea Muller, an 86-year-old retiree, has been a permanent resident on Cunard's Queen Elizabeth 2 since 5 January 2000. Her husband had passed away while the couple was on a world cruise eleven months earlier, and rather than opt for a retirement home, Mrs. Muller sold her house and possessions and booked herself onto the ship.

Have Some Fun

A very interactive, cool flash site. Start clicking!!! I spent over an hour there, so be prepared.

If you want to know the meaning for a certain smiley or acronym, this is the place to go.

Left vs. Right

Do both sides of your brain work in harmony? I am embarrassed to say what my score was. I don't know colors very well.

Beware of the Solar Death Ray

The Solar Death Ray is made of 112 mirrors mounted on a platform 4 feet wide and 6 feet tall. Each mirror is a square roughly 3.5 inches on edge. All these mirrors focus the sun to a single spot 5 feet, 6 inches from the mirror platform. A wooden fork extends from the mirror base to the area near the focus and serves as a mounting point for Solar Death Ray targets. The mirror platform is mounted to the support frame on a pivot that allows the platform to be angled. The whole system is mounted on a set of wheels.
Below, a cell phone caught the wrath of the Solar Death Ray.
