Blogspot Spreading Spyware?

from benedelman.org, Numerous blogs hosted at Google's Blogspot service contain JavaScript that tries to trick users into installing unneeded software. At one such blog, users are offered a misleading popup that falsely claims "You have an out of date browser which can cause you to get infected with viruses, spam, and spyware. To prevent this, press YES now."

I for one have never run into this problem on any blogspot site. Has anyone had any of these problems or issues?

I have encountered this problem, and am confident that Blogger would not do such a thing. Rather, the JavaScript mentioned was likely inserted into the template by the individual blogger.

A lot of people like to "enhance" their blogs (in their opinion) with tagbaords, guestbooks and the like... and end up choosing a version from a free provider that comes with pop-ups or, in this case, spyware. If a blog "add-in" is free, I always test it out thoroughly, to confirm none of my visitors have to deal with pop-ups.

As always, be careful what you click on. And remember that not all folks tapping into free blog hosting are using it for good.
