How Many Pennies.....

The MegaPenny Project aims to help by taking one small everyday item, the U.S. penny, and building on that to answer the question: "What would a billion (or a trillion) pennies look like?"

All About Leaves

This is the time of year that all the leaves fall to the ground. Some are big, some are little, some are beautiful and bright. Millions of trees end the growing season by dropping their leaves to the ground, to prepare for a winter rest. The wind carries some leaves a great distance, other leaves float slowly to the ground below.

Remove Remote Clutter

Do you have 4 or 5 different remote controls for all of your audio and video components? I normally do not refer retail outlets but if you want to use just one universal remote, this company is fantastic. Their customer support is top notch and you can configure your remote thru your computer and make changes to it as many times as you want to.
A good forum to discuss different remotes and a/v products is remotecentral.com.

Off the Top of my Head

Some facts you may not have known:

  • Top 10 popular last names in the USA-Smith, Johnson, Williams, Jones, Brown, Davis, Miller, Wilson, Moore and Taylor

  • The often quoted line, “Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus” comes from the response to a letter written by 8-year-old Virginia O'Hanlon. In 1897 she wrote a letter to the editors of the New York Sun newspaper asking if Santa Claus existed. The answer, written by the editor, appeared in the September 21, 1897, edition of the paper. It read: “Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as surely as love....How dreary would be the world if there was no Santa Claus! It would be as dreary as if there were no Virginias.”

Baby Beluga Whale Cam

Tuvaq has certainly developed an independent and playful personality. He's started to enjoy some special attention from the marine mammal trainers, who are beginning to interact with him more formally. Tuvaq can be seen following the trainers around the Arctic Canada Habitat, and he has proven he's just as grown up as the other belugas by trying to steal the show-literally!

Thanksgiving Party Host part 2

Lat week I started a checklist for people hosting a Thanksgiving Dinner. This week you should follow these tips.
  • Table (one large enough for all your guests)
  • Chairs for all of your guests
  • Dinner plates
  • Dessert plates
  • Coffee cups and saucers
  • Polished forks, knives and spoons
  • Water glasses
  • Roasting pan: Is it the right size for your turkey? Will it fit into your oven? (Don't laugh: It's easier to buy the right pan today than it will be on Thanksgiving morning.)
  • Well-sharpened knives

Does anyone actually follow these types of lists?

I think Rather was auditioning for a stand up comedian gig last night during the election coverage on CBS.

  • "George Bush is sweeping through the South like a big wheel through a cotton field."

  • "This presidential race is hotter than the Devil's anvil."
  • "Politics has gotten so expensive, it takes a lot of money just to get beat."

Some interesting statistics on cell phones.
  • 98.9 million cell phones will be distributed to customers in North America this year
  • 20 to 25 percent of them will run into problems within the first year
  • The average life cycle of a phone is down, to 19.4 months this year from 25 months three years ago
  • Carriers often offer insurance policies, at a cost of about $4 a month plus a deductible, but only about 10 percent of cell phone users buy such plans
  • Carriers say a quarter to a third of customers coming in with problems simply don't know how to use the phone or its features

Anyone remember when you had to carry a battery pack around your shoulder in order to receive a cell phone call. It wasn't that long ago.

Cost of the ball is $79.95.

Closed on Sunday

Sunday is a "no blog day" in my household. Enjoy the rest of the day and look for posts to begin again early Monday morning. I also wanted to thank all the people who have visited this site. Although Kukla's just started four days ago, I am overwhelmed by the amount of traffic this site has generated.
See you on Monday and I leave you with this haunting laugh from Vincent Price.
